If there’s one treat that seems to divide the country every Halloween, it’s candy corn. Some people can’t get enough of the chewy little treats, while others scorn their entire existence. Personally, I think candy corn is one of those foods that just tastes like Halloween. I will happily eat whatever the haters don’t want!

But where does America love candy corn the most? Brach’s produces nearly 20 million pounds of candy corn every year, and the brand just released its annual Candy Corn Heat Map. This year, there’s a new state at the top of the list.

This State Is Candy Corn’s Biggest Fan

Move over, Utah! This year, Kansas takes the No. 1 spot as the state that loves candy corn the most. Honestly, what a sweet honor.

Utah, which topped last year’s ranking, dropped to No. 2. I guess some people in Utah lost that candy corn-loving feeling. Iowa, Oklahoma and Missouri round out the top five, proving that the Midwest and the South continue to have a serious soft spot for the classic Halloween mellowcreme.

Here are the 10 states where candy corn is most popular this year:

  1. Kansas
  2. Utah
  3. Iowa
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Missouri
  6. Indiana
  7. Kentucky
  8. Tennessee
  9. Michigan
  10. Alabama

Personally, I’m offended that my home state of Illinois is not in the top 10. I think we need to step up our game for next year.

The Midwest and the South Love Candy Corn

Nine of the 10 states on Brach’s list come from the Midwest and the South, making it pretty clear that these parts of the country aren’t afraid to embrace the controversial Halloween staple.

Of course, candy corn’s annual popularity debate isn’t going anywhere. But love it or leave it, the numbers show that plenty of people are still reaching for the nostalgic treat. Brach’s has been making candy corn since the 1920s, and its 11-ounce bag was the No. 1 fall confection in the seasonal candy aisle last year.

So, Kansas, enjoy your victory. And to everyone else: There’s always next Halloween.
