Cam Newton makes feelings known on Carlie Irsay-Gordon's leadership
Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton praised Indianapolis Colts owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon.
He discussed on Sunday how Irsay-Gordon is helping shape the Colts’ culture.
“I’ve been seeing Carlie make her presence felt,” Newton said (0:52), via the "4th and 1" podcast. “Not a lot of times do head coaches want the involvement of upper management because they may feel they’re being micromanaged. But if I’m paying you, you don’t get to tell me how I should run my team.”Newton added that Irsay-Gordon is an example of an owner who does not just stay behind the scenes but helps build the team’s bigger vision. He also asked a bigger question about women in football.
“Do we need more women in football?" Newton said. "Does a woman’s presence provide a different element to not just football but to sports, a male-dominated commodity that we probably didn’t even know we needed?”Indianapolis will be back in action on Sunday to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are looking to bounce back after losing to the Packers.
