Carson Beck and the Miami Hurricanes suffered their second loss of the season in Saturday's game against the SMU Mustangs. Beck was picked off just short of the goal line on the first possession of overtime.

The Miami shot caller spoke to the press after the game. When asked about the game-altering interception, he said,

"They ran the same thing the whole time… I just execute the play that is called".

College football fans on X (formerly Twitter) gave their two cents on his honest response.

A fan said, "This dude never takes responsibility. Draft stock plummeting" Another added, "Guy is such a bum" One said, "Sheesh, threw his teammates under the bus last week and now blaming the coaching..? At what point does the blame fall on the guy that threw the interception that lost the game?"

However, not all the comments were harsh.

One comment reads, "Buddy had a rough day" Another added, "Definitely going to The Falcons" A fan chimed in, saying, "why just why does he keep having clips like this after losses"

Beck ended the game with a stat line of 274 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The second interception proved costly as the Hurricanes are now barely holding on to their playoff hopes.

The defeat will have Miami fans questioning Head Coach Mario Christobal's decision not to go for the win towards the end of regulation. Christobal had 25 seconds left plus a timeout, but opted to have Beck take a knee after a touchback on the kickoff.

Carson Beck's Heisman Trophy campaign shaky after SMU loss

Carson Beck got Heisman Trophy shouts early in the season as he led the Miami Hurricanes to a 5-0 record. The former Georgia Bulldogs QB1 was having a stellar start to life in Miami as he rebuilt his draft stock.

However, cracks began to show in his Heisman Trophy campaign when Miami suffered its first loss of the campaign to the Louisville Cardinals. Beck had a forgettable showing as he posted a stat line of 271 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and four interceptions.

The shot caller then led the Hurricanes to an impressive win over Stanford. Beck's Heisman Trophy hopes then took the biggest hit as SMU defeated Miami on Saturday.

Furthermore, Beck's overtime interception sealed the deal for the opposing team. The Heisman Trophy race is thickening up at the business end of the season, and this loss might be the end of his chances.

Ohio State's Julian Sayin is now the runaway favorite for the treasured prize. Other collegiate stars like Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia, and Sayin's teammate Jeremiah Smith are also in the race.

Beck and his teammates will now focus on their upcoming showdown with the Syracuse Orange. The Hurricanes need to post an almost flawless record until the rest of the season to give themselves a fighting chance in the playoff hunt.
