Muay Thai star Jaosuayai Mor Krungthepthonburi has made a major shift in his career, following a tough loss to Azerbaijan’s Akiff Guluzada at ONE Fight Night 36: Prajanchai vs. Di Bella II on Prime Video last October.

The 24-year-old phenom dropped a close three-round unanimous decision after a tough fight. Following the contest, Jaosuayai contemplated moving down to strawweight for his next match, and now here we are.

Jaosuayai spoke to the world’s largest martial arts organization and explained his decision:

“After the last fight, my weight only went up by four or five pounds. So, I decided to consult with my coach about dropping down to try the 125-pound division, a weight class I haven’t competed at for about four-to-five years.”

Jaosuayai continued:

“This decision is not about running away from the 135-pound division, as some have criticized. It’s because my improved training plan has made my body condition better, and my weight has been dropping automatically.”

The 24-year-old can’t wait to showcase his newfound strength and speed the next time he’s in the ONE Championship ring.

Jaosuayai returns against legendary Sam-A at ONE Friday Fights 137

In his first fight at strawweight, Jaosuayai is getting thrown right into the heat of battle to face Muay Thai legend and former ONE world champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao.

They will meet in a three-round strawweight Muay Thai bout on Friday, December 19, live in Asia primetime from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

If he’s victorious, not only will Jaosuayai make a strong statement that he’s a top contender at both flyweight and strawweight, but he will have added a very significant name to his fight resume.

Nevertheless, it’s a very intriguing litmus test for the 24-year-old, one that should be fun to watch for the fans.
