The Philadelphia Phillies have made a few key additions to the roster in the offseason so far. While Kyle Schwarber's return on a five-year, $150 million deal is the headliner, their next move was also very intriguing.
With outfield issues, the Phillies signed former Texas Rangers slugger Adolis Garcia to a one-year, $10 million deal. He comes to fill in the right field spot, which Nick Castellanos will leave behind this offseason.
The day after signing this new contract, Garcia explained to NBC Sports Philadelphia why he decided to sign this one-year deal with the Phillies. He revealed the reason why, and it was very complimentary of the Phillies team and organization.
Adolis Garcia reveals why he signed with Phillies
"Great team, great town. I like the way they compete." Garcia said. "I love the dynamic of the team, that was the biggest intrigue about me coming here. ...I'm just ready to go and contribute."
Garcia chose the Phillies in part due to their status as contenders and how they've played over the last few seasons in Garcia's eyes.
Philadelphia treats power-hitters very well, as seen by their massive Schwarber extension. While Garcia likely won't reach the heights of his 2023 season when he clobbered 39 home runs, he could become a key piece of the lineup in Philadelphia.
The dynamic of the team is another big reason why Garcia picked Philadelphia, and as he's friends with Edmundo Sosa, he has an in with the clubhouse.
Garcia, the 32-year-old veteran, will join the Phillies outfield alongside Justin Crawford and Brandon Marsh as the new-look outfield tries to help revitalize the lineup in 2026.

But Garcia won't just provide a power bat at the plate. His defense in the outfield is great, and is one of the things that Rob Thomson is excited about in Garcia.
"You have to be yourself. Relax, have fun." Thomson said. "I'm super excited about this, I really am. He's a really good defender."
While the Phillies aren't planning to add more to the outfield, and some analysts aren't big fans of this signing, taking a chance on Garcia returning to form is a worthwhile investment for the Phillies.
And for Garcia, he gets to join a competitive club that has a chance to win the World Series in 2026. He will hit alongside Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Schwarber, and a few other quality hitters in a Phillies lineup that can go toe-to-toe with the top teams in MLB.
