The Dallas Mavericks have pushed themselves back into the play-in discussion thanks to a strong December, winning six games after an ugly 5-15 start to the season and improving to 12-21, sitting 1.5 games behind the No. 10 seed.
As the Mavericks have gained momentum, owner Patrick Dumont reportedly wants to see Cooper Flagg, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis share the floor before making any “drastic” moves, according to NBA insider Marc Stein, despite ongoing trade speculation. It remains unclear whether Irving will return this season as he continues to recover from a torn ACL.
With Dumont seemingly buying into former general manager Nico Harrison’s long-term plan, Mavericks fans questioned why Harrison -- who orchestrated the infamous Luka Doncic-for-Davis deal -- was fired in the first place.

“Then why not keep Nico if you still have belief in his ‘vision’???” one fan asked. “It’s crazy that they want to see this core together but rushed to fire Nico before the core actually played together,” another commented. “Hey Dumont, we already made one drastic mistake that you were a part of. Maybe let's not make another one and f**k up the future with Cooper. Trade AD,” another said. Here are other fan reactions.
If Kai is back all stars break. Let them play and see how it work and if not trade them next summer. But i prefer to get another picks bcuz this draft is so stacked
trade luka, fan base revolts fan base okay with trading AD.. patrick : “ehhh i think we’ll keep him” lol
This will turn into a massive mistake. I don’t know if he knows this but after this season the Mavs do not have their pick for 4 years. You can’t try something this year and decide it didn’t work and bail on it this summer just to be a worse team next season.
Hawks interested in engaging Mavericks for Anthony Davis deal
One team reportedly showing interest in acquiring Anthony Davis is the Atlanta Hawks. However, NBA insider Chris Haynes said on NBA on Prime that any potential deal would not include Trae Young, who was traded for Luka Doncic on draft night.
"If a deal was to materialize, ... I was told it would not involve Trae Young,” Haynes said (per BasketNews). “Dallas would likely want expiring deals, young assets and picks -- and probably, likely to include last season's number one pick, Zaccharie Risacher.”Haynes also noted that any team pursuing Davis would likely need to offer him a contract extension, as he could enter free agency after next season.
Matching his salary could be challenging, given that he carries an average annual value of $58.4 million through the 2027-28 season, when he holds a player option at age 35.
