Two dozen NYC-area hospitals earned top marks for patient safety — while six are barely making the grade, a new watchdog report card shows.

Hospitals overseen by NewYork-Presbyterian, Northwell Health and NYU Langone Health, as well as Mount Sinai Queens, among others, received an “A” safety rating from the Leapfrog Group on Thursday.

Nearly 3,000 US hospitals were scored “A” through “F” based on how well they protect patients from preventable medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

In a statement, NYU Langone Health noted that it’s among just 1% of hospitals nationwide to receive 11 consecutive “A” grades from the Leapfrog Group.

Its “A” rating applies to Tisch Hospital and Kimmel Pavilion in Manhattan, NYU Langone Hospital —Brooklyn and NYU Langone Hospital — Long Island.

“NYU Langone’s reputation in the communities we serve is built on a foundation of safe, top-quality care, thanks to our teams who put their patients first every day,” said Dr. Alec C. Kimmelman, dean and CEO of NYU Langone Health.

“Leapfrog is one of the best barometers patients can look to in determining where to receive their care, and we are proud of these ratings.”

Also scoring “A”s were NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital and Huntington Hospital.

“The dedication of our outstanding care teams makes this important recognition possible,” NewYork-Presbyterian told The Post.

“Safety is at the core of our mission as caregivers,” the statement read. “We follow the most rigorous safety protocols across all our campuses, implementing best practices from leading medical societies.”

Dr. Cameron R. Hernandez, president and chief operating officer at Mount Sinai Queens, called the hospital’s “A” grade a “true reflection of the exceptional commitment of our Mount Sinai Queens team to patient safety and clinical excellence.”

“Every member on our staff consistently sets the bar high for quality care, ensuring that every patient who walks through our doors receives the safest and most compassionate treatment possible,” Hernandez told The Post.

New York placed 30th in the US with 23.1% of its hospitals garnering an “A,” a slight change from 31st place in the spring, when 25.2% of the hospitals got an “A.”

The Leapfrog Group report card is released twice a year.

“At Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH), high-quality and safe patient care remain our top priorities. The hospital is committed to actively working to align our systems and policies with the survey’s distinct metrics,” hospital officials told The Post.

“Additionally, we are very proud to have an exceptionally low rate of hospital-acquired infections and post-operative complications,” the statement continued. “This demonstrates an intense and unwavering focus on patient safety.”

New Jersey, meanwhile, is third in the country with 52.2% of its hospitals earning “A”s, and Connecticut is fourth with half of its hospitals “A” facilities.
