Konnor Griffin is the Pittsburgh Pirates' great hope.
Even more than Paul Skenes, Griffin is the guy that can bring back the glory days of the Pirates that are so many decades ago. The top prospect in all of baseball, a shortstop phenom, Griffin is meant to be the savior.
The hype around him can raise all kinds of questions. Fans want to know if he'll be on the Opening Day roster, and where he'll hit in the order, and what kinds of numbers he'll put up.
The reality is that the only question that will matter in the end is this one:
Can Konnor Griffin live up to the hype?

This is a guy who has been compared to Mike Trout and Bryce Harper.
Shoot, the latest Fangraphs prospect rankings say Griffin can become like Mean Joe Greene in Pittsburgh. That's already going out of baseball to just reference a city's icon.
Rarely is the top prospect in the sport the same guy by every minor league analyst. Right now, Griffin takes the cake for everyone.
That's not fool-proof status, though. These guys don't always work out. For every LeBron James and Bryce Harper, there's a JaMarcus Russell and Mark Appel.
Yes, Griffin seems about as fool proof as they come. And yes, he's more than likely to become at the very least a quality big leaguer.
But this is a young player already being compared to all-time greats, so just a solid MLB contributor isn't the outcome Pirates fans are hoping for.

They're hoping, before Griffin has even stepped onto a major league field, that he can be a legend.
So it's less about when he arrives, or anything else logistical.
This is simple. Griffin has the chance to live up to the hype and become an all-time great Pirates player. All that's left is to actually do it.
