The wholesome tale of the jealous cat child who had to get used to living with a tiny kitten/intruder that his pawrent’s rescued to be his brother, going from bitter enemies to best buds: ‘So I guess having a brother isn't so bad.’

"So I guess having a brother isn't so bad."

I am Casey, an orange boy, Mom says I'm about two years old. All I know is I came in winter and I love my Dad. Mom is alright, but she smooches me on my head and behind my ears and I don't like it! Dad is cool. He gives me belly rubs, but I like

  • 03

them too much and I get excited, so I CHOMP! and SCRATCH! but Dad isn't mad. He does say we have to use more bandages since I've moved in. Mom has been talking about getting me a little brother or sister

  • 04

for soooooooo long. I never believe her. She is all talk, no action! She says I need a buddy. Dad is my buddy. Mom says she needs a buddy to cuddle with. I don't cuddle. Yuck. That's girl stuff. Mom and Dad both

  • Oh lordy, this cat is in for the shock of a lifetime. It is rather hilarious how you can think to yourself that you are on such safe and stable ground only to instantly find out that everything you thought was true is no longer so. But mom is rather right, it sounds like this cat child is in need of a buddy. Specifically a buddy who can play in the way that this cat likes to, allowing his dad’s hands to heal and for the family’s bandage budget to shrink significantly. And while it might initially be a rude awakening at first having a new cat in the house, these things will likely work out in the end.

left today separately, and they were gone a while! Mom came in with a big box that looked familiar, but I wasn't sure why. She put it in Dad's bathroom, and I heard it make noise! Mom was running around, and she grabbed MY

old litter box (well, I guess it was my sister's first, but I came after she did) and a bag of MY litter (well, Mom got it from a friend who lost their kitty) and MY bowls! I got really nervous. Mom opened Dad's clothes room (which I

  • 07

NEVER get to go into alone) and put down these things on a blanket on the floor. Dad came home and said "I haven't seen him yet!" HIM? WHO WAS HIM? Dad and Mom stayed in the bathroom, and then Dad came and

  • 08

got me. Mom tried to tell him not to do it, but it was too late - there was ANOTHER CAT in there! A little pipsqueak. In MY house! I am ten times bigger than him, at least! So I hissed at this baby several times.

  • 09

Then I growled at Dad and Mom. Mom sat in the room with this kid. I laid in the hallway in front of the door. Sometimes I scratched. Sometimes I hissed when Mom or Dad came in and out. Sometimes I just sat there and contemplated what it

seems like my life has suddenly become. Mom says I'm a big brother now and I'll have someone to play with. I like laying around and playing with the laser and my toys BY MYSELF. And Mom took one of my

  • 12

old toys and GAVE IT AWAY. I never played with it. But it's MINE! (Mom said was also my sister's toy first.) Mom and Dad say he is soooooo cute and cuddly. Mom says now she and Dad both have a buddy. Mom isn't cool

  • Ah jealousy, you are an ugly monster and there is hardly a hooman or even a cat that you cannot color with your ugly ugly colors. Poor cat though, it must be so tough to go from having your own territory where you feel safe and secure, complete with your own toys and routines, only to have it all pulled out from under you. And for a new and improved version of yourself no less. But surely if dad thinks the new kitty is cute, then our feline protagonist will come around, after all his dad is his best bud, and best buds’ opinions ought to be valued.

enough to be MY buddy, so this kid must be a real loser. He is black and white and really puny. I'm not muscular, but I could take him in a fight. Dad is worried we will never get along. Mom says that it will take time and we will get along

Hello, it's Casey again. I wrote about my intruder here. Mom and Dad named the intruder, so I guess he is going to stay and be my brother. Here is Pixel.

  • 16

For a couple days, intruder Pixel stayed in Dad's clothes room and I didn't get to go in. I eventually figured out I could dig at the carpet by the door and try to poke my paw in. He started poking his little feet out! Mom showed us to each other through

  • 17

a crack in the door. I hissed, but he wasn't scared! Then Mom and Dad tried to get clever and put ME in the clothes room while they took the pipsqueak Pixel out to see the house. Normally I would be VERY excited to be in

  • 18

the clothes room, but it didn't smell right! So I scratched and they switched us back. Mom was trying to introduce us like the furry face guy with the dangly ear toys on YouTube said to, but Dad called someone Mom calls my ant.

  • 20

(Which is very confusing, because this summer Dad was upset because we kept getting ants in the kitchen and he didn't think they should be in the house because we live in the city. Mom laughed and said ants live everywhere. He

  • 21

wanted Mom to put poison down on the floor, but Mom said NO because it would make me sick.) ANYWAY, ant that is not an ant has had many kitties before. The ant said to get a baby gate (I am NOT a baby, but I guess

  • 22

shrimp Pixel is a baby) to put up so we could see and smell each other but it would be safe. (I would be safe but baby Pixel would not be safe from ME because my claws are big) Mom wasn't sure if it was a good idea, but she wanted me to

  • 23

meet loser Pixel so she could sit in a comfier place instead of on the floor. (Mom has no b. t. That sounds mean, but she says it all the time.) So Mom went to the store this morning and came back with what looked like a

"Are you sure about putting holes in the wall? Mom: "We have to put them in the wall or it won't work.") Apparently we rent our house, which means nothing to me.

  • 26

I don't pay any money to live here. Don't worry, people called landlords said it was okay for them to get me brother or sister. I was disappointed. Mom put the gate up and opened the door and ZOOOOOOOM!! little bother brother

  • 27

came running out! He zoomed down the hallway while I watched. He got close and I did a little HISSSS but he wasn't too scared. He was surprised, but not scared. He ZOOOOOMED around for a while but he kept coming to see

  • 28

me. I watched and watched and we did a little WHAP WHAP WHAP with our paws. All was good, Dad on my side and Mom on wimpy kid Pixel's side. Until...HE CLIMBED THE WALL!! Mom got him down, but then he did it AGAIN! And

  • 29

    23

  • 30

then he LEAPED over the gate and he was on MY side! He walked down the hall, and I was behind him, doing a bat SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF and he kept jumping when I did it. But I HAVE to make sure he does not have a stinky

  • 31

bt. I do not want to live in a stinky baby bthouse. He JUMPED really HIGH but he wasn't too scared. So then I did a CHASE and he RAN and Mom and Dad said "Don't chase him too much Casey!" I slowed down, but he is FAST! Well, I got so

  • 32

good doing a CHASE from all the time of following the RED DOT so I can't NOT chase. Is in my DNA. So we ZOOMED around the house and Dad let punk kid Pixel play with MY TOYS (he did NOT ask permission) but then

  • 33

we played together some. He went into MY house and scratched on MY tree and chased MY bouncy balls! We did lots of ZOOM ZOOM around the house and I got GASSED so much I was panting. (I do that sometimes,

good aerobics, Mom says. She checked with the Evil Pokey Place.) And THEN...do you know what happened next? PIXEL did a WHAP WHAP and a big HISS at ME because I cornered him on my tree! I did

  • 36

not expect him to be so brave. I thought he would cower in my presence because I am so big and so much older. I was SHOCKED at his DISRESPECT for his ELDERS! But then he Iran and I chased him some more. It was kind of fun! He can

  • 37

hold his own. We both chased the RED DOT around (he is pretty good at that) and chased the rainbow ribbon on a stick and scurried under the table. I snuck in his room and ate some of his food - it's pretty tasty! Dad

  • 38

kept saying that he was surprised that we didn't get tired yet. After a while he suggested that Mom take Pixel back to his room so we could both get some rest, because we could NOT STOP chasing each other. It was fun, but Mom said that

  • 39

baby Pixel had a lot of excitement and needed a cuddle (yuck) and a nap. (I think Mom just wanted a cuddle.) I'm sitting on my tree trying to smell it up with my non-stinky b t so Pixel knows it belonged to me FIRST.

  • 40

So I guess having a brother isn't so bad. I did get more exercise than I have since I was his age. Mom says it's nice to see me so active. I had to cut out naps FIVE THROUGH EIGHT today because kid had me so busy. I'm not too crazy about that. Mom says maybe we will nap

  • 41

together some day. I don't think so. I NEED all the HANDSOME SLEEP I can get. I'm sure a wiggly kid would just interrupt it. If anything changes, I will report back!

  • 42

Hello, Mom here, checking in a few days later! Casey and Pixel are getting along well. There is still a lot of CHASING and a little WHAP WHAP, but things are going better than expected. Casey has become much more of a Dad's boy, and Pixel is a

  • 43

cuddle MACHINE. He rumbles at the slightest touch and is getting almost all the smooches! (Casey still gets a couple.)
