How can you not be romantic about the beautiful game?

A Boston local is telling her World Cup love story after she met a Tartan Army foot soldier in June upon leaving Fenway Park.

Jill Roberts, 42, bumped into Tommy Morrison, 38, who was one of the thousands of Scotland fans that took over the stadium to see the Red Sox play against the Blue Jays on Pride Night.

“My friends and I purchased the tickets to see the Red Sox over a month ago, and we were not expecting to run into the Tartan Army,” Roberts said, per The Sun. “We had seen a few social media clips online, but I had absolutely zero expectations of meeting anyone from Scotland that night.

“As a bisexual woman, I was just there to celebrate the Pride event and watch some baseball with my friends.”

Roberts explained the two spontaneously ran into each other and she was not expecting to connect with anyone “so deeply” that night.

However, when seeing a viral video that came out of the two meeting, Roberts said you couldn’t deny the “instant chemistry.”

“As we left each other – him catching the train and me walking with my friends to our cars – I turned to my friends and said I wish I had gotten his number,” the mother of four from Marlborough, Mass., said.

“Tommy did not expect me to be interested in him at first, but when he saw the video he could also see how he made me feel and see that I was drawn to him as well,” she added.

Roberts ended up getting Morrison’s number from none other than one of his ex-girlfriends.

“After I posted the short video online, one of his ex-girlfriend’s made a comment fully endorsing him,” Roberts said. “I took the chance and messaged her and she then shared his phone number with me.

“Talk about a wing woman.”

Morrison, a father of one, moved onto Miami with the Tartan Army but has returned to Boston since June to spend more time with Roberts.

Roberts has continued to document the budding relationship on TikTok and Instagram, and many of the videos have thousands of views.

“Both Tommy and I were single and immediately drawn to each other,” Roberts said. “I think we have very similar sense of humour and our natural connection is undeniable. We have also experienced enough in life to know when something is worth pursuing, even if it seems a little risky or unconventional. Life is too short to live in fear.

“I told a friend yesterday that I’m allowing myself to fearlessly experience life to the fullest. What Tommy and I have is so special and there’s no way I’d let that pass.”

She confired the two are an “official item” and plan to take visiting each other throughout the year.

Roberts already has a flight to Scotland booked for the end of summer.

“I think we both went into this simply open minded without expectations or any type of pressure,” she concluded. “But we quickly realised that our connection runs deeper than just a summer fling, and we are excited to pursue things further in whatever way feels right to us both.”
