Here’s everything I use to survive (and thrive) during summer travel jet lag

During my trip to Japan last year, I didn’t sleep a wink.

Jet lag has always stressed me out — the pressure of following a packed travel schedule when snoozing hours before or behind your typical time can be a lot to handle.

As I stared at the ceiling of my tiny room in Tokyo for seven straight nights, I wished in vain for products that would offer the sweet relief of sleep, but my bag was stuffed to the top with clothing and clothing only.

The sleep disruption threw my entire vacation for a loop. I slept past my morning breakfast, and one night, I even caught myself dozing off at the dinner table.

And I’m not the only one going through it. According to a recent study, approximately 68% of international business travelers experience negative symptoms consistently.

Thankfully, I’ve forced myself to become a jet lag pro. In March, I went to Iceland, which is four hours ahead of New York, and I left more than enough room for jet lag essentials.

Instead of packing yet another fuzzy sweater (two were more than enough), I opted for a small jar of melatonin. Rather than packing sneakers, I stuck to boots and squeezed in some lavender spray to spritz on my pillow at night.

Here are some of my fool-proof travel essentials that have secured shut-eye during major time differences.
