Despite dismal seasons (again) from the Jets and Giants, New York City sports fans had plenty to look forward to in the fall. The Knicks won the NBA Cup after a thrilling two-game stretch in Vegas for their first title of any sort since 1973. Gotham FC secured its second NWSL title in three years behind a shocking playoff run, though don’t tell that to Jaedyn Shaw, who produced the line of the postseason with her “underdog my ass” quote after their upset of top-seeded Kansas City.

The ripple effects of those titles will carry over into 2026. And here are some other things that Sports+ is looking forward to watching unfold in the next calendar year.

Can the Knicks double-up?

The Knicks snapped their title drought — but not one that’ll prompt a banner and parade and a forever legacy. So can they channel their experience from the NBA Cup into something that leads to an NBA Finals victory?
