Cameron Carr was the 24th overall pick of the 2026 NBA Draft. Most people thought he would get selected earlier, but that was not the case as he fell down the order. Getting selected late has led to him being motivated to contribute to the Los Angeles Lakers as soon as possible.
At the 2026 NBA Summer League, Carr has shown that he can be an impressive player. He has also showcased his attitude toward the game, as he looks motivated to keep playing and showcasing his skill set.
Cameron Carr dives into why he is extra motivated to perform
Throughout this year's Summer League, Carr has been one of the standouts for the Lakers. He was already known to be one of the best shooters in his class, but he is proving that he can translate that into the NBA. Considering the Lakers desperately need shooting, he is a welcome sight for the fans.
He seems like one of the most NBA-ready rookies from this year's class, which is a positive for the Lakers because they will need him. Not only is he a positive with his perimeter shooting, but he is also a promising defender, which could make him a long-term fit alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

Since he was selected with the 24th overall pick, Carr has been quite vocal about wanting to prove everyone wrong. He knew he deserved to get selected higher, but it seems he found the right landing spot because the New York Knicks traded him to the Lakers.
"At the end of the day, I feel like you've got to have fire under your feet. Every time I step onto the court, I'm motivated to go out and do my job. I think I was overlooked, so I've got a lot to prove," Carr said in a post-game interview.
Carr is doing all the right things when it comes to proving himself to the Lakers and head coach JJ Redick. Since Carr is a shooter, Redick will probably find a way to maximize him, and since he is playing alongside stars like Doncic and Reaves, he will get those open looks.
