“As they say, shortcuts cut long runs short, and we’re going to do everything in our power not to allow that to happen.”
— Thunder GM Sam Presti, May 20, 2021
When Presti dropped that gem of a quote, the Oklahoma City Thunder were halfway through a two-season tank. Just over four short years later, they were one of the best — and youngest — NBA champions in history.
And after they completed their long run to an NBA title on Sunday night, the Nets would be wise to follow the roadmap the Thunder established.
The Nets don’t have a Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but can they attempt to walk at least a similar path? And if they do, the next few days may be their most important steps along the way.
