The New York Yankees' rotation for the upcoming season appears to be complete.
New York was rumored to show interest in trading for either Freddy Peralta and MacKenzie Gore, but they are now with the New York Mets and Texas Rangers, respectively.
Yankees fans shouldn't expect to see Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal in pinstripes any time soon, either. According to the New York Post's Jon Heyman, the Yankees recently inquired about the back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner, but found the Tigers' asking price to be too steep.
Yankees unlikely to make blockbuster trade with Tigers
Skubal and the Tigers are far apart in arbitration negotiations, but he's expected to be with the AL Central club at the start of spring training. Nevertheless, his pending free agency makes him an ideal trade candidate for several contending clubs.
Naturally, Detroit will only trade Skubal if it is absolutely blown away by a trade proposal. The Yankees balked at the asking price.
"Tarik Skubal is super elite, and the Tigers are well within their rights to expect a huge return if they surprise us and deal him," Heyman wrote. "After brief talks, the Yankees and Mets quickly figured they have no chance."
The Yankees will enter the regular season without Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon as they rehab from their respective surgeries. Clarke Schmidt, who underwent Tommy John Surgery in July, may return during the later months of the season.
