After grabbing my Monday morning coffee, with a little time to spare before 9 a.m., I decided to take a leisurely stroll to work instead of my usual subway ride. Quickly met with a brisk wind, I realized my weekend would be best spent making the annual swap from lightweight jackets to winter-ready outerwear. This is my favorite time of year, as the colder weather gives way to endless layering possibilities and fresh styling tricks inspired by the latest runways. The best place to start my winter transition? With a few Burberry classics, of course.

Founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry in Basingstoke, England, the house began as a small shop outfitting local sportsmen. With the invention of gabardine in 1879, Burberry revolutionized outerwear, eventually dressing soldiers during World War I. Fast forward to today, that same utilitarian spirit continues to define Burberry’s collections.
Take the trench coat, for example. It’s an enduring silhouette that feels just as relevant today as it did over a century ago, easily layered now over a sleek monochromatic look and finished with a statement necklace for an uptown-meets-downtown mix. Elsewhere, a relaxed zip-up gets a romantic feel when teamed up with a pleated skirt, while worn-in jeans topped with a chic cape make the case for a fashion-forward off-duty uniform.
Below, discover how I’m styling Burberry’s winter collection for the season ahead.
