Marco Andretti retired from IndyCar racing and motorsports after racing in the pinnacle of American open-wheel racing series for two decades. Marco is the son of IndyCar veteran Michael Andretti and the grandson of F1 & IndyCar champion Mario Andretti.

The 38-year-old began racing in IndyCar in 2006 for his father's team, Andretti Green Racing (now Andretti Global,) after racing in the Indy Lights (now Indy NXT) championship in 2005. Marco participated in 252 IndyCar races, won a couple of them, and stood on the podium 20 times.

After the 2020 IndyCar season, Marco Andretti took a semi-retirement from the series, giving up his full-time driver role, and only racing in the Indy 509 each year as a part-time entry. As he announced his retirement from motorsports, tributes started pouring in from across the motorsport world.

NASCAR star Kyle Larson also shared a message, which was shared by Andretti on X, as the Hendrick Motorsports driver said,

“Hey man. Just wanted to reach out and congratulate you on 30 awesome years of racing. That's such an awesome career and something to be proud of. I really enjoyed being around you the last couple of years (for the Indy 500). Also following your NASCAR career a little bit and seeing you progress in the stock cars. I wish I could've rubbed some fenders with you a time or two. It's been cool, the Andretti's mean a lot to motorsports and you especially as well so congratulations again and look forward to following the rest of your life.”

Roger Penske’s message for Marco Andretti as the IndyCar driver announces retirement

As Marco Andretti took to Instagram and uploaded a post about his retirement, he shared a video of IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway owner Roger Penske, who shared a heartfelt message on his retirement. The post was uploaded in collaboration with IndyCar, IMS, and Andretti's official Instagram account.

“Marco, congratulations on 30 years in IndyCar racing. It was great to see your entry coming into this year’s 500. I’ve known the Andretti family all the way back when I was supposed to take a test at the Speedway. Couldn’t do it. And Mario came in, and that really was a legacy that the Andretti name has had for so many years. You’ve been a great driver,” said Roger Penske

Marco Andretti and his fiancée, Billie Jo Powers, were blessed with their first child, Miura Micah Andretti, last year in September.
