Daniel Cormier recently expressed his displeasure with Tom Aspinall after the Brit's YouTube channel leaked a private conversation between them ahead of UFC 321.

In that conversation, Cormier stated that Jailton Almeida "can't fight." However, during a discussion on the Good Guy / Bad Guy show with Chael Sonnen, the former UFC two-division champion clarified and explained his remarks.

Cormier explained that he intended to convey to Aspinall that he is on the verge of a dominating run in the UFC heavyweight division. After seeing the private conversation leak, Cormier was unhappy with how his words were deciphered.

"I was literally trying to tell him you could possibly be on the verge of something tremendously special right now... [In that statement], I was saying Jailton's going to grapple you. It's not as dangerous a fight. I could have done a better job of saying that to Tom."

He added:

"Now I was a little upset that Tom and them released that, if I'm being honest with you. I thought when you lean into someone and you're talking quietly, that's a private conversation that should stay between [us]. I thought it was Embedded, and I know that Embedded would never do something like that."

Daniel Cormier shares immediate thoughts on Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane fight

The heavyweight championship bout between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 ended dramatically. Due to accidental eye pokes from Gane, Aspinall was unable to continue, and the referee, Jason Herzog, declared the fight a no-contest.

Daniel Cormier, who was at the commentary table, shared his thoughts on how Gane appeared to be effective against Aspinall before the eye poke occurred. In a video on his YouTube channel, Cormier said:

"Cyril Gane fought tonight like we expected him to fight against Jon Jones... That was going to be the toughest fight of Tom Aspinall's career. I can say that very confidently because I saw him with his face and nose all bloody from jabs of Ciryl Gane, who landed it multiple times over the course of that first round..."

He added:

"Tonight, Tom [Aspinall] was kicking more, he was trying to wrestle more, he was doing so many things differently because he had to. Unfortunately, Ciryl Gane seemed prepared for all of that, and he was fighting better than we saw him in a long time." [H/t: Home of Fight on X]
