Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Vaibhav Arora admitted to having goosebumps when he heard the reception for the legendary MS Dhoni from the crowd in his debut IPL game. It was the 2022 season when Vaibhav made his IPL debut for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Brabourne Stadium.

Dhoni wasn't the captain of CSK for the first time, with Ravindra Jadeja taking over the mantle. Vaibhav enjoyed an excellent debut outing, finishing with figures of 2/21 in four overs as PBKS won by 54 runs.

Recalling the reception for Dhoni from the crowd on his IPL debut, Vaibhav told Crictracker:

"I made my IPL debut against CSK in Mumbai during the Covid season, when only 50% of the stadium capacity was allowed. It was my debut match, and as I was warming up and bowling for a while, there was suddenly a huge roar in the stadium. I was shocked and wondered what had happened. Then I saw Mahendra Singh Dhoni walking out from the dressing room, that’s when I realised why the crowd was so loud."

He added:

I instantly got goosebumps. Whenever he enters the field, the noise level rises so dramatically that it leaves you stunned.

Dhoni continues to play the IPL despite turning 44 and having retired from international cricket in 2020.

"Keep it up and do well" - Vaibhav Arora on MS Dhoni's message to him after IPL debut

Vaibhav Arora revealed that MS Dhoni came up to him and congratulated him on his performance after the solid showing on his IPL debut. The 28-year-old played only the 2022 season for PBKS and has since moved to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Vaibhav has become an integral part of the KKR bowling unit since the 2023 season, picking up 33 wickets in 27 games.

"On my debut, I finished with figures of 2 for 21. After the match, he came up to me and said, 'Very well bowled, keep it up and do well'," said Vaibhav Arora (via the aforementioned source).

The right-arm pacer bagged 11 wickets in 10 matches during KKR's dominant title run in 2024. Vaibhav followed that up with his best IPL season to date in the 2025 edition, finishing with 17 scalps in 12 games.
