Texas is far from just the Arch Manning show

The Texas Longhorns are likely to have one of the nation's best offenses this year. Helmed by Arch Manning at last, they figure to put up a ton of points. Despite just two starts, Manning is the projected Heisman and number one overall pick in the NFL Draft. He's going to lead a dynamic offense.

But the Longhorns are title favorites for much more than just that. Their QB and his explosive offense are one thing, but they also have a dominant defense poised to wreak havoc on opponents. In fact, PFF's Max Chadwick believes they're the second-best defense in football behind only Alabama

This is, in large part, thanks to their dominant secondary and linebacking corps. "The Longhorns’ back-seven on defense is easily the best in college football, featuring both the top linebacker unit and secondary in PFF’s offseason rankings," Chadwick said. Given the fact that Alabama has a top-10 player at every position, it is incredible that Texas outranks them in that regard.

Chadwick went on, "Anthony Hill Jr. is college football's top returning linebacker, Michael Taaffe is a top-five safety and Malik Muhammad is the sixth-ranked cornerback. The Longhorns' defensive line came in 10th in PFF’s rankings and features the best edge defender in the nation, sophomore Colin Simmons."

The Texas Longhorns have the best odds of winning the championship by a slim margin, and while most of the credit for that will go to Manning, the defense will likely be able to carry the load as well, making this a deep, well-rounded title threat.
