When the Houston Texans moved Jawhar Jordan up from the practice squad prior to Sunday’s NFL matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, nobody expected much from the 26-year-old rusher who hadn’t played a truly competitive snap since his time at Louisville.
Jordan, however, was called into action after Woody Marks struggled to stay healthy throughout the game. Surprisingly, he delivered a good game, finishing with 118 all-purpose yards, 101 of those coming on the ground. Jordan also had the longest run of the season from a Texan with a 50 yard effort. C.J. Stroud held that mark prior to this match.
Every Texans RB with 100+ rushing yards in a game this season:
Jawhar Jordan
End of list.
Without three of their four main rushers available, Houston made it work with Jordan
Houston’s running back room was stacked entering the season. Joe Mixon, Nick Chubb, and Woody Marks were set to be a monster rotation that would open up the running game for Stroud. However, Mixon has been out with a lingering foot issue, Nick Chubb suffered a rib injury last week, and Woody Marks was labeled questionable to return against Arizona after going into the medical tent several times, which is becoming an increasingly common occurrence for the rookie.
Jawhar Jordan’s breakout game showcased his individual quality and the Texans’ ability to scheme plays that work no matter who is on the field. If Houston can get their running back room healthy again, then the possibilities are endless. But, from the looks of it, Jawhar Jordan might be good enough to temporarily hold that position down.
