Texans get slap in the face spot in latest NFL power rankings

5 hours ago 1

The Houston Texans have had one of the most-discussed offseasons in the NFL. They traded away star left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders, and they also acquired multiple guards that feel like lateral moves at best. Considering C.J. Stroud was the second-most sacked quarterback in the league, the decisions made up front are still head-scratching. Even though the Texans added multiple receivers and a new left tackle in the NFL Draft, their offense will still have questions to answer.

Even so, though, David Helman of Fox Sports ranked Houston shockingly low in his post-draft power rankings, putting them in 18th.

"It all looks good in the aftermath of the draft. Houston managed to restock the receiver room and add a new offensive tackle in one weekend," Helman writes. "After the initial excitement, though, is it enough? What are the odds all these rookies hit their stride quickly enough to make the Texans a better team than they were in 2024? It’s possible, but I have my doubts."

Even with the changes to the offensive line, the Texans have won a playoff game in consecutive seasons, have a great defense, and a very good quarterback. Putting them in 18th feels a bit asinine.
