Texans bring in new QB with local ties as potential depth behind C.J. Stroud

The Houston Texans will be getting a look at some potential quarterback depth at their upcoming rookie minicamp.

This guy isn't a rookie, though.

The Texans have Clayton Tune set to attend their upcoming workouts, according to the Houston Chronicle. It's a way to see what the QB can do, and it also surely helps run drills a little bit smoother for all the young players in attendance.

Tune is 27 years old and was originally a fifth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2023.

He spent parts of two seasons with Arizona.

Last season, Tune was with the Green Bay Packers, and he actually got to start in Week 18 as the starters rested before the playoffs.

Tune has yet to throw a touchdown in the NFL, but he does have three interceptions as part of 21-for-38 for 112 yards in his action in the regular season.

The coolest part of this is that Tune played college football at Houston, so he's kind of back where it began.

The Texans could possibly have interest in a competition for their QB3 spot, but the first two are definitely spoken for.

C.J. Stroud remains the starter, and Davis Mills is one of the top backup quarterbacks in football.

The third QB under contract right now is Graham Mertz, who was a sixth-round pick in 2025. Mertz had a solid college pedigree despite not quite living up to his recruiting status, but Tune is someone who has actually played in the NFL, so there could be an argument to be made on either side of that.

At this point, Tune is just taking the chance in front of him to show off his arm in front of a new team.
