Teens run wild in spring break takeover of downtown Chicago, forcing an emergency curfew

Shocking videos show hundreds of rampaging teens brawling and jumping on cars during a spring-break takeover of downtown Chicago — forcing an emergency curfew to gain control.

Witnesses said around 400 teens ran “amok” through the Loop Wednesday night, with some armed with mace and Tasers used in running battles late Wednesday.

“It’s an absolute mess. Multiple arrests, multiple fights,” the local commentary site the Chicago Contrarian said while sharing a video of a large mob running up and stomping on someone who fell over while being chased.

Tactical teams — normally reserved for high-risk police operations — were deployed in a desperate bid to curb the chaos, according to local reports.

At least one teen was knocked out in the numerous brawls, witness Justin Peters, from the violence response group ChiTown Crime Chasers, told Fox32.

“Me and my team actually witnessed the little boy getting stomped out, unconscious, and I had to render aid to him,” he said. “We had to call an ambulance for this boy.”

Officials only gained control when a temporary emergency curfew was enforced at 10 p.m., according to Alderman Brian Hopkins.

“The situation was out of control,” Hopkins wrote on X, saying the curfew “had an immediate impact on this violent teen trend. Curfew enforcement is effective.”

Some of the teens were seen being cuffed — one allegedly for attacking a cop — but police have not give details on any arrests or charges, CBS News reported.

Lawmakers have previously pushed for stronger curfew powers to help disperse unruly crowds.

While Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson vetoed a snap curfew bill last year, he has admitted that “unsanctioned gatherings have proven to be detrimental and harmful” to the Windy City.
