Spoiler Alert: This list contains spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 4.Ted Lasso Season 4 has come to an end, and while there's no confirmation of a fifth season yet, early talks ahead of the Season 4 premiere suggested that the intention, or at least hope, was to have the resurrected show run for a few more seasons. The story wrapped up nicely, framed by Mae's (Annette Badland) narration at the end about the beauties of life.

The series could theoretically end here, but there's so much more story to tell. A few loose ends remain up in the air and could take the show in completely new directions. That presents opportunities for another season, especially since though many of these mysteries were predicted, some were entirely unexpected.

Will Zelda Be Back?

Zelda Southport (Tracey Ullman) in Ted Lasso Season 4Image via Apple TV

We learned in the penultimate episode of the modern classic Apple TV show that Zelda (Tracey Ullman) was the one behind buying up all the Richmond shares, so it was expected that she would make her big reveal in the finale. Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) would learn that she was duped. It happened in the most theatrical way, but Rebecca and Leslie (Jeremy Swift) were a step ahead.

Zelda's right-hand man betrayed her by convincing the Milk sisters to sell their shares… to Rebecca. That still meant Zelda had as many shares as Rebecca, but Mae's death put Rebecca over the top. In her will, she gifted her 2 percent shares to Rebecca, making it a 51/49 percent split. Zelda exited as abruptly as she entered. But since she is still 49 percent owner of Richmond, it would stand to reason that we'll see her again if the show returns. The big mystery is what happens to the character from here and if she will return. Given how unpopular she was with fans, it will be interesting to see how this is explored.

Will We See Rebecca's Wedding on the Show?

After Roy (Brett Goldstein) throws Rebecca's own words back at her about taking risks in life, she impulsively asks Matthijs (Matteo van der Grijn) to marry her. He says yes and all is bliss for Rebecca. It was clear that Mae's death, being taken advantage of by Zelda, losing Roy to a rival team, and learning of Keeley's (Juno Temple) pregnancy all put life into perspective.

If the show returns, might we see the wedding or will that be glossed over and the pair introduced as an already newly married couple? It would admittedly be fun to see a "bridezilla" type Rebecca (in the nicest way, of course) leaning on a very pregnant or new mom version of her best friend Keeley for support. There are a lot of opportunities to cover the lead-up to a wedding thanks to this storyline.

Who Is Going To Coach the Men's Team?

Ted with a bucket on his head, Coach Beard with sticky notes over his eyes in Ted Lasso.Image via Apple TV

After Roy confirms that he's leaving AFC Richmond in the addictive Apple TV show, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) shows up to speak to Rebecca about the women's team. He didn't know that news at the time, but we learn in the end that his request is to promote Alice (Tanya Reynolds) to manager of the women's team, Ted joining Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) as an assistant manager. This is partly because she deserves it, but also because it's part of Ted's plan to have more time to spend with Henry (Grant Feely) and watch his games.

That said, there's still an opening for a coach on the men's team. It would stand to reason that Rebecca would approach Ted first, given that he already has experience. Alice and Beard could handle the women's team on their own or hire a second assistant coach. This would be a conflict for Ted, though, since the men's team schedule is likely even more demanding. Other options present, like Nate (Nick Mohammed), who returns for a cameo, revealing he's now coaching the Polish National Team. But this is also an opportunity to introduce a new character. Who will coach the men's team is arguably the biggest mystery left unanswered this season.

Will the Pub Trio Honor Mae's Wish?

Mae (Annette Badland) in Ted Lasso Season 4Image via Apple TV

The only other shareholders left who refused to sell during Zelda's takeover campaign were faithful fans Basil "Baz" (Adam Colborne), Jeremy (Bronson Webb), and Paul (Kevin Garry). It makes sense that Mae would leave the pub to her three best and most frequent patrons. She knew they love the pub as much as she did, but also love football and AFC Richmond as much, too.

Hilariously, Mae's only wish for the trio is that they "don't f–k it up," so it will be interesting to see more of how they run the place. They know it like the backs of their hands, including Mae's routines and what she liked and didn't like. But they're also goofy, child-like guys. Seeing the dynamic and giving them more screen time would be fun, especially if Ted continues to live above the pub and Henry hangs out with them there after school.

Membership Confirmed Your Fandom Is…

Four of the largest communities on the planet, and four completely different reasons to belong to one. Here is yours, what it would give you, and the argument you would be having within a week.

Harry Potter

You belong to the fandom that is really about comfort. Hogwarts works on people because it is a place rather than a plot, and the pull is not the wizard war so much as the corridors, the food, the weather and the sense that somebody is expecting you.

  • You are drawn to belonging, which is why this fandom sorted itself into houses within about five minutes and has never stopped.
  • This is the most social of the four, and the one most likely to know which type every single person in your life would be.
  • The books are built to be reread rather than analysed, and rereading is exactly what you do with things you love.
  • The new HBO series is bringing the whole thing back one book at a time, which means the arguments are about to start all over again.

Lord of the Rings

You belong to the deepest fandom on this list, the one where somebody has always read further than you and is quietly delighted to say so. Middle-earth rewards patience more than any other world in popular culture.

  • You like the sense that the story you are reading is only the visible part of something enormous, which is precisely how Tolkien built it.
  • This fandom takes adaptation seriously to a degree that other fandoms find slightly alarming, and it has good reasons for that.
  • Your favourite thing about the books is probably the bit that is not action at all, which is the walking, the songs and the long goodbyes.
  • Nobody here thinks heroism belongs to the powerful, and the whole story exists to make that argument.

Star Wars

You belong to the loudest and largest tent of the four, the one where three generations are all watching the same thing and none of them agree about any of it. That disagreement is not a flaw in this fandom, it is the main activity.

  • You want something you can share with absolutely everybody, from a six year old to a grandparent, and this is the only one on the list that really does that.
  • Nobody argues like Star Wars fans argue, and the argument has been running since roughly 1980 with no sign of resolution.
  • The pull here is sensory before it is narrative, since it is the sound design, the score and the look of a used and dented galaxy.
  • You would be first in the queue, in costume, with strong opinions and a genuinely good time.

Star Trek

You belong to the thinking fandom, the one that turns up for the argument rather than the explosion. Trek has always been a series of ethical problems in space, and the people who love it love being asked what they would have done.

  • You are an optimist in a way that is currently unfashionable, and this is the only major franchise still willing to say the future might be better.
  • The best episodes are the ones where nobody fires anything, which is a sentence that makes perfect sense to this fandom and to nobody else.
  • Starfleet Academy brought the franchise back to a classroom in 2026, which is appropriate, because Trek has always been a bit of a seminar.
  • You would want the conversation afterwards more than the episode itself, and here you will always find somebody willing to have it.

↻ RETAKE THE QUIZ

How Will Roy Do at Chelsea?

Roy walking into the locker room, the Believe sign above the door in Ted Lasso.Image via Apple TV

Roy, one of the best Ted Lasso characters, is taking a huge leap, moving to Chelsea at the same time as he's about to be a father. It's a much more high-profile team with a bigger budget and, as Rebecca puts it, unlimited resources. He's clearly up for the task professionally. But will a wrench of fatherhood thrown at him be too much pressure?

A big mystery is if we might see time split, looking at Roy and Keeley on one side and Ted and AFC Richmond back home. While Chelsea isn't that far away, Roy and Keeley will have their own games and challenges to deal with. But both are also integral to the show. Either way, it's wonderful to see Roy end up back with the team where he once played and became a star.

Does Coach Beard Ever Meet the Right Girl?

Coach Beard standing beside a white board in Ted Lasso.Image via Apple TV

Poor Coach Beard has been in a funk all season, slowly morphing into some version of Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) by the end with his hairstyle, earrings, blue contacts, and puffy vest. He has gone through it with Jane (Phoebe Walsh), the woman who broke his heart and tricked him into believing she was pregnant with his child (apparently for 11 months). When he finally decided to put himself out there, he found a young woman who meshed with him perfectly, but rejected him because of their age difference. His words to Roy about his feelings of worry about being a dad, reminding him that some people yearn to be able to have those feelings, were heartbreaking.

Coach Beard seemed to have turned a corner by the end, reverting to a better, more confident version of himself. And while he's eccentric, there has to be a girl out there who meets his energy. It would be nice to see him with someone seriously and finally stop the weird and random Jane appearances that don't seem to add anything meaningful to the plot.

Will Ted Finally Start Dating?

Ted smiling at someone in Ted Lasso.Image via Apple TV

Through the entire run of the show, we have only ever seen Ted date one person with Sassy (Ellie Taylor). And even then, it was hardly dating and more like casual sex. He finally had a lovely conversation with his ex-wife Michelle (Andrea Anders), confirming that her relationship with their therapist was not what he thought it was. She also gave him permission and encouragement to start dating.

Ted made moves to meet someone, including enlisting Keeley's help in setting up a dating profile he later deleted. He's an old-fashioned guy, but when his attempt at asking out the unnamed stage manager played by Charlotte Riley didn't work, it's like he retreated into himself. That said, it wasn't that she wasn't interested, she had just started seeing someone. So, it's possible they could have some random meet cute. Either way, whether or not she would have been good for him is a huge question mark.

How Will Roy and Keeley Be As Parents?

Both Roy and Keeley are terrified at how they will be as parents, as any expectant first-time parent would be. But both also have friends in their corner (it was so nice to see the Diamond Dogs back!) who reassured them that they will be great. Ted's note to Roy with a miniature army man was a heartwarming moment of the finale, a reminder in a way of how great a father figure Roy had been to Jamie.

It will be interesting to see how they will be as parents since Roy, a very high-strung guy, seems to be at his most patient and attentive when he's with Keeley. Roy having his own child could result in a complete 180. Meanwhile, Keeley not being able to focus on her fashion, hair, and makeup in the best sports comedy show would be an interesting change to see, too.
