The Premier League is, to most observers, the strongest league in the world. Winning it is an achievement worthy of shouting from the rooftops, as Arsenal fans will tell you.
The UEFA Champions League is the most distinguished knockout competition in club football, pitting together the biggest and wealthiest teams in Europe. To win this trophy is considered the pinnacle of most players' careers, aside from winning the World Cup.
To win the Premier League and the Champions League is something truly impressive. To do so in a single season? Now, that's a remarkable feat.
Hardly any teams have managed it. It's a distinguished (and small) list of clubs that Arsenal will hope to join this weekend.
Here's a rundown of teams to win this famous 'double'.

Teams to win Premier League and Champions League in one season
In the Premier League era (since 1992), only two teams have managed to win both the league title and the Champions League in the same season: Manchester United, and Manchester City.
United were the first to achieve the feat back in 1998/99, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's heroics saw them defeat Bayern Munich at Camp Nou after they had already been crowned Premier League champions. Having also won the FA Cup by beating Newcastle United 2-0 in the final, Alex Ferguson's team became the first in English history to win 'the treble'.

Nine years later, a United team inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo defeated Chelsea on penalties in a rain-soaked Champions League final in Moscow, having pipped the Blues to the league title by just two points. Ronaldo himself missed during the shootout, but John Terry's infamous slip saw his effort hit the post, and in sudden death, Edwin van der Sar saved from Nicolas Anelka.
— UEFA Champions League (@ChampionsLeague) February 8, 2021United came close twice more, winning the Premier League and reaching the Champions League final in 2009 and 2011, but on both occasions, they were beaten to the European trophy by Pep Guardiola's Barcelona.
City's first double was, like United's, part of a treble. Guardiola's all-conquering side swept to league, FA Cup and Champions League glory in 2022/23, with Rodri's winner seeing off Inter Milan in the European final in Istanbul.
Liverpool doubles in 76/77 and 83/84
The very first English team to do the double of league and European honours were Liverpool, in the era that predated both the Premier League and Champions League.
The Reds won both the First Division and European Cup in the same season on two occasions: in 1976/77, and 1983/84.
Bob Paisley's side made English history in '77 after defeating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 in Milan's Stadio Olimpico, while they clinched domestic honours after finishing a point ahead of Manchester City.
They had the chance to become England's first treble winners that year, but they were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in the FA Cup final — something Red Devils fans have been only too happy to remind their fierce rivals about ever since.
Seven years later under Joe Fagan, a Liverpool side boasting the formidable trio of Ian Rush, Graeme Souness and Kenny Dalglish finished three points ahead of Southampton in the league before edging out Roma on penalties in the European Cup showpiece.
They actually completed a treble of sorts, also winning the two-legged League Cup final against local rivals Everton, but impressive an achievement as this was, the "real" treble requires winning the FA Cup, which is the more prestigious knockout competition. They were eliminated that season in round four.
Teams to win the treble in soccer
Across Europe's major leagues, only 11 teams (nine clubs in total) have ever managed to win their domestic league, main domestic cup, and European Cup/Champions League in one season — the feat known as 'the treble'. Only Man United and Man City have done so from the Premier League.
Paris Saint-Germain became the 11th by winning the 2025 Champions League final against Inter Milan, who themselves achieved sporting immortality in 2010 by becoming the first Italian treble-winners.
Barcelona and Bayern Munich are the only teams to have won the treble on two occasions.

Has any soccer team ever won the quadruple?
Celtic, the first team to win the European treble, are the only side in history to have gone one better by winning the quadruple.
In 1966/67, the team that became known as the Lisbon Lions won their domestic league, main domestic cup and European Cup, and they also lifted the Scottish League Cup.
League cups only exist in a handful of nations in Europe, so achieving the quadruple is an opportunity reserved for a select few. England, for example, still has a league cup — known as the Carabao Cup for sponsorship reasons — meaning it's possible for Premier League sides to win the quadruple.

Coaches to win the treble in soccer
In total, nine different coaches have won the European treble. The list includes some famous names, such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, and Celtic legend Jock Stein.
Pep Guardiola was the first manager in history to win the treble twice with two different clubs, having done so with Barcelona in 2008/09 and Manchester City in 2022/23. Luis Enrique emulated that in 2025 by achieving the feat with PSG 10 years on from his treble with Barca.
