James Van Der Beek Says Cancer Was "Best Thing That Ever Happened" to Him in Health Update
Taylor Swift's touring family is never on their own, kid.
And Jeslyn Gorman knows that all too well. Indeed, the backup singer reflected on her experience being diagnosed with cancer and navigating the health battle amid the Eras Tour.
"I was diagnosed with breast cancer," she explained in episode three of Eras Tour: The End of an Era docuseries released Dec. 19. "When I let Taylor know, she came storming in with hugs and crying and just saying, 'I'm so sorry.'"
Jeslyn recalled how supportive the "Bejeweled" singer and her mom Andrea Swift were following the diagnosis, noting that the matriarch told her, "You just take care of you, and we'll be here when you're ready."
For a while, Jeslyn—who joined Taylor's team during her 2018 Reputation tour—tried to continue performing as usual amid her treatment.
"Obviously, it was devastating, but every weekend, we had a show," she said. "I still flew to the next city, did a show with everyone. In the middle of the week when we weren't doing shows, I would fly back to L.A. and just had biopsies, just poked and prodded to learn really what I had to do, treatment-wise and then hopped back on stage and pretended like nothing was happening."
The performer ultimately decided to step back from the tour—which ran for nearly two years from March 2023 to December 2024—for six months to focus on her health.
"I had to take off and go through chemo, surgery," she shared. "I had edema. I had skin issues. I usually have all this curly hair. I lost about 75 percent of my hair. I felt and looked completely different, and just kind of watched my friends on live streams of the show."
Once Jeslyn officially rang the chemo bell after completing her cancer treatment, she worked diligently to get back into shape. Just a few months after being diagnosed, she was back on stage.
For Taylor's part, she was shocked at how much work Jeslyn put in to return when she did.

"I cannot believe that she was back in a few months," she admitted. "The will to come back and do the hardest show ever. None of us could believe it. I still can't."
Looking back on the moment when her backup dancer shared the diagnosis, it shocked the entire crew.
"We've been singing together for a couple of years and when Jeslyn got sick, it was the first blow that the tour family experienced emotionally," Taylor said. "It was like, completely unfathomable to us."
"I'll never forget when she told us, everyone was just in shambles, and it's the not knowing," she added, noting that Jeslyn had everyone's support behind her. "We just wanted her to know that no matter what, under any circumstances, if she wanted to come back, she could."
