After Domhnall Gleeson starred alongside Taylor Swift in her music video for "Opalite," the actor shared insight into working with her during an interview with Live From E! at the 2026 Oscars.
How to Watch Oscars 2026 and Live From E! Red Carpet
Domnhall Gleeson never even dreamed of dancing through the lightning strikes with Taylor Swift.
And yet, the About Time actor ultimately found himself starring opposite the Grammy winner in her February music video "Opalite." Despite his previous appearances in music videos, Domnhall shared how working with Taylor was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"I'm 42, I've got no business being in Taylor Swift's music video," he exclusively told Zuri Hall during Live From E! at the 2026 Oscars on March 15. "It was incredibly exciting. I had done one with Hozier a couple of years before that that I was incredibly proud of. And then the other music video, I joined a great Irish band called Squarehead."
"I've been in a few of these music videos," he continued. "I'm equally proud of all of them, but there was something special about doing a dance number with Taylor that was not on my bucket list. I didn't realize it was on my bucket list until it happened." (See all the stars on the red carpet here.)
After all, Domnhall—whose film Retirement Plan is nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the Conan O'Brien-hosted award show—and Taylor, donning matching blue and orange tracksuits, did a showstopping dance number in the middle of the video.
Although the opportunity to play the "Enchanted" singer's counterpart in her infomercial-inspired music video seemed impossible, Domnhall was the real mastermind behind the project, thanks to a comment he made while they appeared on The Graham Norton Show in October.
"I remember thinking I got ridiculously lucky with the group I was paired with," Taylor wrote in a message shared to social media in February. "All people whose work I've admired from afar. When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light-hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos. He's Irish! He was joking!"

"Except," the 36-year-old continued, "that in that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an *idea*."
Along with recruiting Domnhall, she also tapped fellow guests Greta Lee, Lewis Capaldi, Jodie Turner-Smith, and host Graham Norton for the project.
"Like a school group project but for adults and it isn't mandatory," Taylor teased. "To my delight, everyone from the show made the effort to time-travel back to the 90's with us and help with this video."
