Tampa Bay Bucs' major depth chart decision takes any chance Shilo Sanders has to start off the table

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a move that makes the hill for Shilo Sanders to climb for a chance to start just a little steeper.

The team seems to have moved Tykee Smith from slot corner to free safety after deciding to utilize talent drafted in this year’s NFL draft.

This comes from a statement made by Josh Crysler of The Pewter Plank.

“With the upgrades to the depth in the cornerback room, the team is using their newfound flexibility to slide Tykee Smith over to safety, just one year removed from an impressive rookie season as the team’s starting slot corner,” Crysler wrote.

The Bucs drafted Brandon Morrison out of Notre Dame, who was an All-American talent. The medical had to be good enough to draft him. He is an amazingly talented corner if he is healthy and should be given playing time if able.

What does that mean for Sanders?

That means that being the “snack guy” isn’t going to get you a starting job. Even with Sanders as your last name.

He is going to have to earn it now.

Jordan Whitehead isn’t with the team anymore and leaves a big hole at free safety, and there have already been rumors circulating that the team should be interested in signing veteran Justin Simmons.

If the team does lean that direction and decides to sign Simmons, it could get worse for him as his spot on the 53-man roster could be in jeopardy.

Shilo better make next week’s OTAs the best on-field performance he can, or else it could be to the practice squad this year for the Sanders hopeful.
