Talk That Talk About Rihanna’s Met Gala Looks

Making her Met Gala debut, Rihanna stunned in a white Georges Chakra gown, carrying a red rose with her up the steps for the theme “Poiret: King of Fashion.”

For 2009’s theme “The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion,” Rihanna donned a Dolce & Gabbana suit paired with black stilettos. 

She donned a black lace Stella McCartney dress along with a long braid cascading down her shoulder for the theme “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.”

Rihanna appeared on the red carpet in a textured black dress by Tom Ford for 2012’s theme “Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations.”

For the 2014 theme “Charles James: Beyond Fashion,” she wore a white silk two-piece by Stella McCartney. She shared with British Vogue in an April 2024 Instagram video that this is one of her favorite Met looks to date, tied with her 2015 gown. 

Leaning into the theme, “China: Through the Looking Glass” Rihanna donned one of her favorite gowns, a yellow coat dress designed by Chinese designer Guo Pei, paired with a golden headpiece. She told Vogue at the time, “I will never forget that feeling of discovering that designer.” 

Following the “Garden of Time” dress code, the “Love on the Brain” singer donned a Comme de Garçons gown from their runway. The floral look made of rosette came from the honorary house that year for the theme “Rei Kawakubo/Comme de Garçons: Art of the In-Between.”

Serving as a co-host for the Met Gala, Rihanna stunned in a mini-dress and cape covered in rhinestones, paired with a fully beaded mitre, tapping into the theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” by dressing as the Pope. Her papal look was designed by John Galliano for Maison Margiela. 

Walking her first Met Gala with partner A$AP Rocky, she wore a black, puffy gown designed by Balenciaga with a black beanie and silver jewelry for “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

For the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” Rihanna stunned the steps in an all-white Valentino gown while pregnant with her second child Riot Rose Mayers, who she gave birth to a few months later in August 2023. She showed off her baby bump in the gown, draping a flower coat of white roses around her.

Hours before the 2025 Met—which was co-chaired by A$AP—Rihanna confirmed she was pregnant with the couple's third child. In keeping with the "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" theme, she showed off her baby bump on the red carpet in a custom wool suit by Marc Jacobs featuring a lapel front, a red tie with white polka dots and a bustle in the back, completed with an oversized fedora.
