Syracuse transfer Donnie Freeman decision is good news for Kentucky, bad for UConn and uncertain for Alabama

Syracuse's Donnie Freeman still hasn't chosen his transfer destination.

But as the Kentucky Wildcats, UConn Huskies and Alabama Crimson Tide circle, it appears one may be ahead of the field.

Freeman visited Lexington on April 14 and 15 and seemingly had a good trip.

Then on Friday, Freeman canceled his visit to Storrs, according to UConn Report.

That would, on paper, point to good news for Kentucky, although nothing is official yet.

It also leaves curiosity as to whether Alabama is still in the running and just UConn is out, or whether Freeman has narrowed things down altogether.

Freeman is a former five-star recruit who missed a lot of the last two seasons with injuries.

When he played in 2025-26 for the Orange, he averaged 16.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

Some wondered whether Freeman would leave for the NBA, but without a for-sure spot in the first round, it definitely makes sense for him to stick around in college and be a star for at least another year with likely a huge NIL deal coming his way.

College basketball insider Jeff Goodman has also aligned with the Kentucky possibility with this prediction on X:

Just an educated guess:

Nik Khamenia to UConn

Donnie Freeman to Kentucky

The Wildcats will hope he's right.

Freeman would be an impactful player for Kentucky and Mark Pope, if they can indeed get him to come aboard.
