In a clash of two struggling teams languishing in the bottom half of the EFL Championship table, Swansea City host West Brom on New Year's Day. In the club's eighth consecutive season in the second tier, the Swans are enduring another tough campaign on the league front after winning only eight games out of 24.
Interestingly, a third of them have come this month alone as Vítor Matos' side ended their six-game winless run in the competition with four wins from their next six, including the most recent 1-0 win over Oxford United on the road.
This upturn in form has seen them rise to 18th place on the league table with 29 points from 24 games, three places above the relegation zone and seven points clear.
West Brom also ended their calendar year on a positive note as they beat QPR 2-1 at home. George Campbell fired the Baggies in front after 25 minutes before an own goal from Ousmane Diakite pulled the visitors level.
Nat Phillips then restored West Brom's lead 10 minutes into the second half and that strike proved pivotal in the game as the hosts rode to all three points, marking their ninth league win of the season.
