After the shocking breakup news, all fans want from Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe is just a touch more.
It seems fans will get just that.
When the beloved couple announced their shocking split through a joint statement on Friday afternoon, the co-podcast hosts announced that their show, “A Touch More,” isn’t over just yet.
Instead of hosting together, the two will host separate shows for six more episodes.
“We aren’t going to be hosting this pod together every week,” Rapinoe said in the video posted to Instagram. “We are both really sad to be losing this space. It’s been so meaningful to us, especially post-retirement, to have this to share, not just together but with you as well.”
“We aren’t going anywhere,” Bird added. “We are going to do a little tradeoff, hosting six more special edition episodes of ‘A Touch More.’ That will be our farewell to you all and this space.”
The former couple, who had been together for over a decade, started their podcast on Instagram during the COVID-19 pandemic before partnering with Vox Media in 2024. Their first episode with the company launched during the Paris Olympics and featured a — at the time — recently retired Candace Parker.
Both Bird and Rapinoe also reassured fans that their sole ventures won’t be going anywhere after “A Touch More” comes to a close.
Bird, the Hall of Famer and four-time WNBA champ, will still be pushing out episodes for the second season of the “Bird’s Eye View,” a podcast that lends a close-up lens to all things W.
She will also join NBC and Peacock as a studio analyst for the upcoming season.
Rapinoe will be carving a new path for herself.
The two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion will be doing a special edition of “A Touch More” around the World Cup this summer as the U.S. hosts the major worldwide event. She also teased that she will be launching her own show late this summer.
“I hope you all know we put a lot of thought and care into this,” Rapinoe added. “It’s a decision that we made together. We are still going to be there for all of you and for each other. It’s just going to look and feel a little bit different.
“We truly are evolving into something new to each other, to ourselves, to all of you. We just wanted to say thank you for sharing this space with us and giving us the space to find ourselves in a different way through this podcast.”
“We are so so so grateful and we hope you continue with us on this next journey as well,” Bird concluded.
Bird and Rapinoe met at the 2016 Rio Olympics when both were playing for their respective teams in Seattle. They went public with their relationship in July 2017 and later got engaged in October 2020.
