The San Antonio Spurs have a roster full of budding stars with Victor Wembanyama leading the way. Aside from the French giant, they also have a good group of players, including Stephon Castle. The reigning Rookie of the Year is quite talented on both ends of the floor.
Defensively, Castle is a competitive player who does not mind going against some of the league's biggest stars. That is a great trait to have because the Spurs need someone to step up and lock down the opponent's best player. It is a thankless task at times, but Castle relishes the opportunity.
Castle is excited about playing against NBA superstars
Heading into the NBA, Castle was already known for his defense at UConn. He helped his team win the National Championship, which propelled him further in the NBA Draft rankings.
Most people already saw him as a top talent due to his status as a five-star recruit. However, he continued to improve every season. As he played for the Spurs, Castle showed that he is quite versatile on both ends of the floor, which led to his Rookie of the Year award win.

Castle is also unafraid of the matchups he will play against. At only 21, he is already one of the best guards in the league. Since he can operate as either a point guard or a shooting guard, he has a diverse set of defensive matchups.
Playing against names like Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the norm for Castle. Despite all the tough matchups, he is glad to be playing against them because he welcomes the challenge.
"The player I guarded the most this year? I would assume it's someone on OKC... I take a lot of pride in that. I ask for those matchups. I would not want it any other way. I feel like I can be one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, so day in and day out, just trying to prove that," Castle said to Malika Andrews on NBA Today.
With that kind of attitude, Castle is ready for any challenge. Matching up against superstars is a tough task, but Castle treats it as a privilege. He knows he has the talent to keep up with everyone, so he wants to keep fighting for his spot amongst the league's best.
