Steph Curry’s Nike Return Would Create ‘Major Political Issues’ With LeBron James, Says NBA Agent

On Friday, sneaker free agent Steph Curry caused a stir when he was spotted wearing Nike sneakers prior to the Golden State Warriors' matchup against the San Antonio Spurs. While Curry's viral pics got fans buzzing about his next shoe deal following his split with Under Armour, one NBA insider has doused cold water on those speculatoins.

Nate Jones, an NBA agent who has represented the likes of Damian Lillard and DeMar DeRozan, recently discussed this matter with some netizens. In response to a fan saying that they'd been "waiting years" for Curry to wear Nike, Jones explained why it's improbable for this to happen.

"Curry likely won’t ever wear a swoosh again. If anything, it would be Nike Inc taking on rights to produce and distribute products with the Curry Brand logo," Jones tweeted. "But that is unlikely because it would cause political issues with LeBron, KD, Kobe. None them have own brand under Nike."

Later, Jones doubled down on his idea that a production and distribution deal involving Curry Brand and Nike is unlikely to materialize.

"I don’t see it. Curry having a standalone brand under Nike Inc when LeBron doesn’t would cause major issues," Jones posted on X.

It's worth noting, of course, that James has been with Nike for 22 years. Given the powerful position that LBJ has achieved since this partnership started, Jones could have a point as far as the political side of his argument is concerned.

Until Curry announces his next shoe partnership, however, fans won't stop buzzing about the possibilities.

Whether it was his warmup shoes or his unrelenting work ethic, Curry was clicking on all cylinders against the Spurs on Friday.

By finishing with 49 points in the Warriors' thrilling 109-108 victory against San Antonio, Curry secured a 40-piece for the 44th time after turning 30. This ties a record set by Michael Jordan, whose prolific scoring was hardly curtailed by age during his heyday with the Bulls.

Barring any catastrophic events, the 37-year-old Curry is likely to break this record at some point this season.
