Stefanos Tsitsipas has made an explosive revelation about his relationship with his father and coach Apostolos Tsitsipas. As the duo team up for the 2026 season, the tennis star recently opened up about the ‘biggest issue' between them in the past.
Tsitsipas rose to fame in the tennis world under the guidance of his father. However, the duo have shared a tumultuous relationship and they parted ways in August 2024 after a verbal altercation at the National Bank Open. While the Greek initially teamed up with Goran Ivanisevic, he has since brought his father back as his head coach for the upcoming year. As he gears up to make his season debut as the United Cup, Tsitsipas opened up about the past problems in his relationship with his father, saying in a press conference,
‘The biggest issue in the past with me and my father is obviously we're two strong personalities, and we want to express our opinions. Sometimes they don't really co-align.”Prior to 2024, Stefanos Tsitsipas and his father Apostolos had experienced a minor rift in 2023. The tennis star had briefly brought on Australia’s Mark Philippoussis as his coach during the time, before returning to join forces with his father once again.

Now, as they return to their partnership, Tsitsipas has emphasized that he no longer has ‘any complaints' with Apostolos.
“I don't have any complaints. He's a much better communicator. That was the most important thing working with him,” the Greek star stated during his pre-tournament press conference at the United Cup.He went on to talk about the importance of communication, adding,
“It's really important to stay honest and to stay true to yourself of what you think and what you think needs improvement. It's important to know where you put an end and a stop to it and accept and talk through certain things that might cause friction. So I believe so far we've been managing it better.”Stefanos Tsitsipas will kick off his 2026 at the United Cup, with the tournament scheduled to take place between January 2 and 11. The Greek team for the event will also feature Maria Sakkari.
