Stefanik’s welcomed run for governor: Letters to the Editor — Nov. 11, 2025

The Issue: Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik launching her 2026 gubernatorial campaign.

If New Yorkers have a modicum of common sense, they should overwhelmingly vote to elect Elise Stefanik as their next governor (“Stef out to save the state,” Nov. 9).

She’s a well-respected, assertive and well-spoken leader. Gov. Hochul is indecisive and compromised by the left, as evidenced by her endorsement of Zohran Mamdani.

New York needs a leader with a spine to withstand extremism and save a ship that appears to be sinking. A mistake in the city does not have to be a mistake for the state.

It’s clear to me that the Democratic Party is now embracing the full range of socialist principles and prioritizing the marginalization and eradication of Israel. How Hochul and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries could endorse this is beyond me.

Our only hope now is to elect Elise Stefanik as governor. We must save New York state now that the city is lost.

New York Dems now face a serious challenge — not because Stefanik seems to be a strong candidate, but because they’ve done so little to address the concerns of working people, despite controlling Albany for years.

I doubt any New Yorkers can pinpoint a single thing Democrats have done recently that has made their lives noticeably better regarding wages, food prices, health-care costs or anything else.

Making the change from Hochul to Stefanik is New York’s very last chance. Hochul wasn’t qualified to run the Empire State to begin with.

Let’s hope the liberals in New York City realize this is the last opportunity to start anew. Change is imminent, and Stefanik is the better candidate.

I love Elise, that’s why I want her in Congress. Even if she wins the governorship, there’s no guarantee she will win it again in the following election.

She would be giving up a near lifetime career in Congress for a onetime shot at governor.

Many of my New York friends feel Elise Stefanik, with her no-nonsense reputation and background, will recalibrate priorities for taxpayers that focus on fiscal responsibility.

In Washington, DC, she’s received praise for building coalitions to solve problems, fighting antisemitism on campuses and tackling crime.

Democrats’ inability to create affordable housing and lower energy costs — demonstrated by past mayors and governors — indicates the need for someone like Stefanik.

The Issue: Jimmy Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney, cutting ties with Trump-supporting family members.

In my family, as in most, we make our own decisions, whether it’s in politics, religion or our favorite sports team (“Kimmel wife rift with Trump-voting kin,” Nov, 10).

We might not always agree with each other, but that’s as far as it goes.

Jimmy Kimmel’s wife has no right to tell anyone who to vote for. Who does she think she is? The family members she no longer associates with should be elated.

So, Molly McNearney sends nasty emails to relatives because they have different values than her, then cuts them out of her life.

My family doesn’t agree on everything, but we love and support each other regardless. Remember: You can’t choose relatives, but they’re all we have.
