Steelers’ Will Howard draft pick is wild twist to Aaron Rodgers, Shedeur Sanders QB sagas

8 hours ago 1

The Pittsburgh Steelers added a quarterback on Saturday.

It wasn't Aaron Rodgers. It wasn't Shedeur Sanders.

Instead, in the sixth round, they picked Ohio State's national champion QB, Will Howard.

Howard went No. 185 overall.

He joins a Pittsburgh QB depth chart that currently also includes Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.

Howard is a Pennsylvania kid, from Downington.

He spent his first four college seasons at Kansas State before transferring to OSU.

In 2024 for the Buckeyes, Howard completed a ridiculous 73 percent of his passes. He threw for 4,010 yards with 35 touchdowns compared to 10 picks.

Howard was also a great runner, compiling over his five seasons a total of 1,147 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns (extra impressive when you consider that sacks are negative rushing yardage for the QB in college).

The Steelers can't be counting on Howard to be their starter, but he also could've gone as high as the fourth round.

In the sixth, he was solid value. He has solid QB and leadership traits. He came up clutch in the College Football Playoff run.

If he ever has to start, Howard will probably be capable of doing the job.

And if he gets a chance to learn from Rodgers first, even better. A future first-ballot Hall of Famer as a mentor would work out just right for Howard.
