The field sitting on Pittsburgh's North Shore neighborhood is known for its high maintenance.
Putting a football stadium on it to be used both by the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh tends to create attention-grabbing conditions.
The Panthers played at Acrisure Stadium Saturday, defeating the University of Central Florida, 12-7.
Just 24 hours later, the Steelers are set to take on the Falcons in the season-opener for both teams — and the field condition is already taking center stage.
Steelers owner Art Rooney II was seen along with senior vice president of stadium operations, Jim Sacco, inspecting the field, which had been resurfaced prior to the double-header weekend.
"Art Rooney II and Jimmie Sacco are on the field now inspecting the surface," Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
The field at Acrisure Stadium has been a hot-button issue, especially because it presents an increased risk of injury when the surface isn't up to snuff.
Players haven't been shy about expressing their frustration with it.
“Just seeing the response from the fans, and how much they loved the Black and Gold. And then, Acrisure, other than the field surface itself, is a great place to play,” Aaron Rodgers said earlier this year.
“I mean, I’m not saying anything out of my a**,” Rodgers added.
We can only hope things will be much improved this season, but we're not holding our breath for that to happen.
