The Washington Commanders find themselves in a similar situation to several other NFL teams. Star wide receiver Terry McLaurin has been pushing for a contract extension since the start of the summer. His frustration reportedly began building in June, as the organization continued to drag its feet on getting a deal done.
“All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin has made it clear to the team that he’s frustrated with the lack of progress on a long-term deal. As I previously reported, McLaurin unexpectedly left voluntary workouts after initially attending, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll report for mandatory minicamp,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote.
At first, McLaurin didn’t report to training camp, but he eventually decided to show up to avoid any financial penalties.
“McLaurin became a hold-in and was placed on the physically unable to perform list with an apparent ankle injury suffered last season, though he participated in spring workouts. By reporting, McLaurin could no longer be fined $50,000 per day,” ESPN’s John Keim wrote.
As for his quarterback, Jayden Daniels, he understands there’s nothing he can do about McLaurin’s situation.
“But I can't control what he has going on with his business or the front office, stuff like that. I got to go out there and try to be the best version of myself each and every day. I just hope one day it all gets resolved and 17 is back out here catching passes,” Daniels told CBS Sports' Evan Washburn.

“Through one lens, though, the move would make sense. Pittsburgh is clearly going all-in with Aaron Rodgers this year, and McLaurin's precise route-running and breakaway ability would mesh well with Rodgers,” Knox wrote.
A pairing of McLaurin and DK Metcalf roaming the sidelines together would be dangerous. Don’t count the Steelers out — they’ve shown all offseason they aren’t afraid to make bold moves. McLaurin would bring a whole new dynamic to their wide receiver room.
