Steelers, Browns could make funniest QB trade after Shedeur Sanders draft slide, pick

10 hours ago 2

The Cleveland Browns all of a sudden have too many quarterbacks.

They drafted two in the span of three rounds this weekend, taking Oregon's Dillon Gabriel in the third and then Colorado's Shedeur Sanders in the fifth.

That adds on to two veterans already in the room in Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.

There's pretty much no way they can go into the season with four QBs. There was some kind of foresight missing in the offseason moves that has led to this awkward stage.

Cleveland will hope to find a trade partner, or they'll be forced to cut one of Flacco or Pickett after just acquiring them this offseason.

There may be one option in play, and for it to happen, the Browns would probably need Aaron Rodgers to opt to retire rather than join the Steelers.

If that happens, Pittsburgh might still seek out an established veteran to start.

Pickett could be the right fit, if there are no hard feelings there.

He wasn't actually bad with the Steelers, starting 24 games over two seasons and putting together a 14-10 record.

Pickett learned under Jalen Hurts and the Super Bowl champion Eagles in 2024. He may still have room to grow in his NFL abilities.

His odds of starting in Cleveland just went down. Now, it'll be interesting to see if he's the guy with the most potential trade value.

The Browns acquired Pickett for a fifth-round pick earlier this offseason. If they can recoup even a future sixth, it wouldn't be terrible business after a weird draft.

And the Steelers would be the most ironic yet not totally illogical partner for Pickett's services.
