Steelers’ biggest offseason need still without solution as Aaron Rodgers lingers

It's a broken record at this point.

The Pittsburgh Steelers need a better quarterback. The answer can't possibly be Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson or Will Howard.

Everyone knows what's supposed to happen at this point. Aaron Rodgers is supposed to sign with the Steelers out of free agency.

For whatever reason, though, those negotiations aren't complete.

And the clock is ticking.

Here's what The Sporting News' senior NFL writer Vinnie Iyer has to say about Pittsburgh's biggest offseason need: 

"The Steelers are looking at either Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, or rookie Will Howard serving as their Week 1 starter — still a much lesser QB room than they had the previous two seasons. For them to think about remaining a playoff team, Aaron Rodgers needs to happen. Trading for the Falcons' Kirk Cousins would be the last fallback."

Nobody in Pittsburgh wants to trade for Kirk Cousins, not really.

Rodgers is the one guy out there who, if you squint, you can picture leading a team to a Super Bowl.

The Steelers need him. He probably needs them. It's time to make it happen.
