Spurs and Victor Wembanyama linked to 26.6 PPG two-time champion

The Spurs dealt with a plethora of injuries in 2025, most notably to Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox.

Adding a third star to that equation won’t make these players any less injury-prone, but it certainly could help raise the Spurs’ ceiling. 

The Spurs made a big splash at the trade deadline to acquire Fox at the deadline, and are now being linked to Suns’ superstar Kevin Durant. 

“There have been whispers around the league that the San Antonio Spurs could be a potential landing spot for Kevin Durant, per @JakeLFischer,” NBA X account NBACentral wrote. 

“Him and Wemby could play defense by themselves,” one user said in response. 

The Spurs were one of six teams who had "mutual interest" in Durant at the deadline, per NBA insider Shams Charania.

Of course, everyone wants to add a 26.6 superstar like Durant to their lineup, but with the Spurs' current outlook and available cap space, this move might actually make sense. 

There’s an expectation that once the Spurs figure out the supporting cast around Wemby that it might just be over for the league. Adding Durant to that mix might just help move that timetable forward. 

Durant and Wemanyama would be an unstoppable combination, with the two players' games playing off each other remarkably well — time will tell if the two superstars will be able to unite.
