The San Antonio Spurs have filled the 14th spot on their standard roster by bringing back veteran point guard Jordan McLaughlin on a team-friendly contract. Although his role on the court has been limited, the Spurs' front office and coaching staff continue to value his veteran leadership and exceptional ball security.
NBA insider Shams Charania reported that San Antonio has re-signed McLaughlin to a one-year, $3.3 million contract.
“Free agent guard Jordan McLaughlin has agreed to a one-year, $3.3 million deal to return to the San Antonio Spurs, agent Greg Lawrence of THE•TEAM tells ESPN. McLaughlin appeared in 44 games for the Spurs last season and now enters his ninth campaign,” Charania wrote.
Since the deal is a one-year veteran minimum contract, the NBA's veteran reimbursement program lowers the Spurs' salary cap charge to just $2.45 million. That gives San Antonio added financial flexibility while retaining an experienced, high-IQ guard to provide depth behind De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper in the backcourt rotation.
McLaughlin first joined the Spurs in February 2025 as part of the blockbuster trade that brought De'Aaron Fox to San Antonio. Since arriving, he has embraced his role as a steady and trustworthy backup point guard.
During the 2025-26 season, McLaughlin averaged 2.0 points and 0.9 assists while shooting 43% from three-point range across 44 appearances. He also stepped into an important role during the playoffs, logging valuable minutes after Fox went down with an injury. In 10 playoff games, he averaged 1.9 points and 1.0 assist per game.
