TNA's tag team division features some of the more underrated teams in the sport. With The Rascalz, The Good Hands, The Elegance Brand, The IInspiration, and the most recent TNA additions, The Righteous, the promotion is hoarding some seriously underappreciated groups.
The division also hoarded gold, as they managed to bring WWE's NXT Tag Team Titles across the line for a short time. In a strange sort of rebuilding year, there was a real constant in Total Nonstop Action: Matt and Jeff Hardy.
The legendary tag team did everything but rest on their laurels this year, putting out one of the best years of their iconic careers.
Why The Hardys were TNA Wrestling's 2025 Tag Team of the Year
My job is a tad easier thanks to PWI's tag team rankings this year, firmly placing The Hardys at #1 ahead of teams in WWE, AEW, NJPW, and more. But if that's not enough for you, let's run down the year of the Hardy Boyz.
2025 began with the Hardys as TNA Tag Team Champions in their third reign. After an incredible defense against The Rascalz' Zachary Wentz & Myron Reed at Emergence, the veterans became defenders of the promotion. Even before the NXT-TNA feud began, Matt and Jeff were part of several multi-person matches, joining the likes of Joe Hendry and Mike Santana to take on large heel factions like Order 4 and The System.
The pair successfully defended the tag titles against Fraxiom on the home turf of the then-NXT Tag Team Champions. Shortly after losing the gold to The Nemeths, they'd regain it at Slammiversary in an excellent Four-Way Ladder Match that also included The Rascalz and Fir$t Cla$$. As fun as it was, it was the post-match moment, the return of Team 3D, that set The Hardys up for their most important match.
At Bound for Glory, two of the greatest tag teams in all of professional wrestling put their rivalry to rest the only way they knew how: A tables match for the TNA World Tag Team Championship. Oh, and the NXT Tag Team Championship, as the Hardys managed to beat Darkstate for those titles just before BFG. This was Team 3D's retirement match, regardless of the outcome.
Bully Ray & Devon attempted to go out on a high note, with gold on both of their shoulders. Instead, Matt and Jeff retired their forever rivals and close friends on an incredibly emotional night. Pro wrestling fans who didn't see this one missed an incredible final chapter here.
Outside of three months this year, The Hardys were on top of Total Nonstop Action's tag team division, and even managed to grab gold from both WWE and House of Glory. Adding the retirement of Team 3D to the list, there's literally no other team that comes close in TNA Wrestling.
In the end, the rest of the competition was just Obsolete.
