In a wide-ranging and personal conversation released on December 23, 2025, Kamala Harris reflected on ambition, partnership, and the pressures women face when navigating careers alongside personal relationships.
Appearing on the Rich Little Brokegirls podcast, hosted by Kimberly Bizu, the former US Vice President spoke candidly about rejecting restrictive ideas of what it means to be a “good woman” and discussed the persistent anxiety many single women feel about timelines, marriage, and success.
Drawing from her own life and relationships, Kamala Harris emphasized patience, honesty, and self-kindness over social expectations. Toward the end of her advice on dating and partnership, she offered some advice about grappling with balance and choice, saying,
"Sometimes you can get both, and sometimes they just is oil and water. And that's okay! Be in those phases where you are having fun!"Kamala Harris talks about rejecting the myth of the "good woman"
In conversation with host Kimberly Bizu, Kamala Harris challenged the seemingly long-enforced belief that women must show less ambition for them to be considered good.
Harris spoke of humility as a virtue, but ambition is nothing shameful and is something women should be proud of. She also acknowledged that in the past, women were taught to only "get their work done" and never take credit for their own success, let alone acknowledge how they felt about doing that work. She said women today have been taught to create their own goals and no longer be ashamed of how they feel when they reach those goals.

The former US vice president also spoke about her upbringing within a supportive community of relatives, which encouraged confidence and high aspirations. This, she said, instilled in her a sense of authority and self-confidence, teaching her at a young age that she had to learn to recognize her own power and responsibility in a situation. This attitude, she said, still applies to what women must do in their work and personal lives.
Kamala Harris's advice to single women balancing ambition and relationships
Kamala Harris admitted that it is challenging for single women to pursue fulfilling careers and maintain a relationship at the same time when asked directly for advice. She started off by stressing that it is "not easy," but she also emphasized that difficulty does not equate to failure.
She pointed to her own life as an example of how perspectives on partnership can evolve. She shared that she and her husband married in their 40s, noting that timing played a crucial role in their compatibility. Had they met earlier in life, she said, they may not have been aligned in the same way. That experience reinforced her belief that there are multiple phases to life, each with its own priorities and lessons.

She pointed out that relationships are rarely balanced at all times, recalling advice she was given as a child that partnerships are not really "50/50" but rather change based on the situation.
