The Green Bay Packers decided to take a different approach to the backup quarterback position this offseason.
Their QB2 for the year ahead will be Tyrod Taylor, the well-traveled veteran. It's a welcome change for Jordan Love.
Love has missed games in each of the past couple seasons due to injury, so the backup spot is important in that regard.
Taylor also brings a wisdom that Love hasn't had in a backup before.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky pointed out in a new article that this is the first time that Love's backup is older than him.
Part of that is because Love sat behind Aaron Rodgers for a few seasons before taking over as starter, but it's still a notable shift.
Love is certainly a fan of the change.
"Tyrod is a pro, he's a vet, he's been at it for a long time, so it's nice to have a guy in the room that's played a lot of ball," Love said, via ESPN. "He's been in a lot of different offenses and just somebody that you can piggyback off and pick his brain. You know, what are you seeing out there? What am I seeing? Those kind of things and just have those conversations. Tyrod's been great. He's a pro. Just the way he handles his business, comes into the building and just goes about his work. It's cool to watch, and it will be great to have him around all season."

Love's backup the past two seasons was Malik Willis, a talented QB who had less NFL experience than Love.
Willis is now with the Miami Dolphins to be their starter after departing in free agency. The Packers took a bit longer than some would've thought to land on a true backup, but getting Taylor was a solid move.
Taylor isn't the athlete or passer he once was, but he's still solid in both regards, and so if he's called on, he'll play solidly.
And even when Taylor's not playing, he can be a positive influence for Love.
