Reds' ex-phenom Nick Senzel sad baseball journey may have reached its end

Nick Senzel was supposed to be a star.

Instead, his baseball journey with the Cincinnati Reds hit a rough patch, and Senzel has never really recovered. It might all be coming to an end soon.

Senzel was most recently playing in the independent Atlantic League for the Lexington Legends. But after 16 games, he no longer appears on their roster.

In that span, he hit just .172, although he did hit four home runs in 16 games.

Senzel had begun this season with Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Dodgers organization, but he had just a .179 average there in 23 games.

In 2025, Senzel spent time at two levels of the Dodgers' system and also played six games in Mexico.

Since leaving the Reds, he also played for the Nationals and White Sox.

He was once the No. 2 overall pick by the Reds in 2016 out of Tennessee.

He was ranked a top-10 prospect in MLB three years in a row by Baseball America as he rose through the minor leagues.

Senzel never hit better than .256 in an MLB season, though.

His career major league numbers included a .232 batting average, a .662 OPS, 40 home runs, 33 steals in 54 attempts, 143 RBI and 200 runs scored in 451 games.

At this point, Senzel is a long way away from MLB. It doesn't seem like he's ever coming back.

And given the hype that once surrounded him, it's a bummer of a baseball journey.
