Social media users react to Mets' Mark Vientos claiming defensive prowess

New York Mets' Mark Vientos didn't get a chance to back up his boast of defensive prowess.

One day after suggesting to SDY that his play at first base had been "pretty good," the social media response was swift and, at times, brutal.

"That question was the bait and he took it hook line and sinker," zraker replied.

At least Vientos sounded sincere.

Social media users react to Mets' Mark Vientos' effort ...

"Please. So, how does he compare to his peers: the other 1B in both leagues? I have not reviewed the data. I'm waiting, whatever the analyis shows," Vince Connors wondered.

Well, Vientos ranked No. 62 in the league with a minus-3 fielding run value.

"PLEASE....PLEASE get this dude off this team," SemienisKing wrote.

Jared Young replaced Vientos at first base during Wednesday's matinee matchup against the host Seattle Mariners and collected two hits and an RBI during his first three at-bats.

Out of the starting lineup, Vientos was batting .219, with seven home runs and 26 RBI. His WAR rating was minus-0.7.

"The experiment needs to end now. Costly errors. Swinging at pitches four, five inches off the zone," JerseyDevilSports demanded.

For comparison, Mets' Juan Soto entered Wednesday with 93 total bases in 162 at-bats. Vientos, with 25 more at-bats, collected 22 fewer total bases.

"How does this guy still have a starting spot? Been waiting two years for him to turn it around. It's not happening," Mboss stated.

Vientos doesn't feel that way.

"Feel like I've done a pretty good job over there," he said Tuesday. "Been working. Feel like I've been doing pretty good. I have to give myself a little bit of props."

"Please! Missing easy plays isn't doing really well. He must be delusional..." Daryl Thomas declared.

"He has his own gate at JFK Airport...Gate E3," Thomas St. John quipped, accompanied by a laughing emoji.

Few likely laughed while listening to Vientos' interview, though.
