There's never a dull moment when it comes to the Chicago Sky.
For a franchise seeped in dysfunction, fireworks seemed inevitable once the Sky signed Skylar Diggins to a two-year contract in free agency.
Diggins, a seven-time All-Star and a six-time All-WNBA selection, is known almost as much for her brash persona as she is for her elite skillset. And entering Tuesday night's game against the Phoenix Mercury, Diggins is at the center of a new controversy as she revealed Monday that she has been moved to the bench since her rookie season, all the way back in 2013.

"The crazy part about it all is I’ve been so quiet," Diggins said Monday in a video posted to Instagram Stories. "I’ve been so good and quiet."

"Now I'm coming off the bench?????? Cool."
"And the crazy part about it all is that... I've been so quiet. I've been so good and quiet."
Later in the day, Diggins confirmed the news when speaking to reporters.
"I've been putting my body on the line all year for this team. I've done everything that's been asked of me," Diggins said. "I've been great professionally, that's the decision that's made, and I gotta live with that."
Sky head coach Tyler Marsh has only said that the pending change is a "coach's decision," but it is clear that Marsh had to do something to arrest Chicago's slide down the standings.
After a 2-0 start, the Sky has dropped 14 of 18 games. Rising star Rickea Jackson is out for the season with a torn ACL, and Angel Reese is long gone following an offseason trade that prompted the roster overhaul in the first place.
In addition, veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot's return from injury always was going to upend the backcourt rotation.
The Sky has stood firmly by Vandersloot, arguably Chicago's greatest-ever player, as she recovered from her own ACL tear. The 37-year-old has made three appearances off the bench and could slide into the starting five on Tuesday night in Phoenix.
